- Then you got this “halal” food. Means it’s made a certain way, for certain folks. This Fortune Food place, they make it. They got laksa, whatever that is, and somethin’ called popiah. Sounds foreign, but folks seem to like it. They even send you the stuff to make it yourself, like a puzzle you can eat!
- And noodles! Oh, my stars, the noodles. They say there’s this “number one” noodle, fresh and kept cold, ready to eat. Back in my day, noodles was just noodles. Now they got a whole to-do about ‘em.
Now, how do you get this here fortune to go? Well, it ain’t hard, even for an old gal like me. You gotta have one of them phones, the smart kind. Then you download these “apps,” little programs that let you order stuff. Uber Eats, that’s a big one. My grandkid says they make a whole lotta money doin’ this. More than some folks make in a year farmin’ back in the day! Then there’s DoorDash and Delivery Hero. Sounds like a bunch of superheroes bringin’ you dinner instead of savin’ the world.
The thing is, it’s so darn convenient. No more slavin’ over a hot stove all day. You want a snack? Tap-tap, it’s there. You want a big ol’ meal? Tap-tap, it’s there. You don’t even gotta get outta your pajamas! Sometimes I think it’s a bit much, all this laziness. But then I remember my achin’ back and think, “Well, maybe it ain’t so bad after all.”
And it ain’t just for home, neither. These city folks get food delivered to their offices too! Imagine that! Sittin’ at your desk, workin’ away, and then bam a whole gourmet meal shows up. No more packin’ a lunch pail. Just tap-tap and you’re eatin’ like a king. It’s a whole different way of livin’, that’s for sure.
But let me tell you somethin’. All this fancy food and easy livin’, it comes at a price. It ain’t cheap, this fortune to go. You’re payin’ for the food, sure, but you’re also payin’ for the convenience. And sometimes I wonder if we ain’t losin’ somethin’ along the way. Losin’ the joy of cookin’ a meal from scratch, the satisfaction of growin’ your own food, the connection you get from sharin’ a table with folks you care about.
Still, I can’t deny it’s handy. Specially on them days when my joints are achin’ and I just don’t feel like fussin’ in the kitchen. So, I guess I’ll keep tappin’ on that little box and lettin’ the fortune come to me. It’s a strange new world, but maybe, just maybe, there’s a little bit of good in it too. After all, even an old gal like me can appreciate a good meal without havin’ to lift a finger. And that, I reckon, is a fortune all its own.
