Okay, so I’ve been thinking about getting a tattoo for a while now, and I finally decided to go for it. Not just any tattoo, though. I wanted something meaningful, something that really spoke to me. That’s when I landed on the idea of a constellation tattoo. It just clicked, you know? A little piece of the night sky, always there on my skin.
Picking the Right Constellation
First things first, I had to pick a constellation. I spent hours poring over star charts and reading up on the stories behind each one. Did I want my zodiac sign? Or maybe something more obscure? I was initially drawn to Orion because, well, it’s Orion. It’s so recognizable and has that cool hunter vibe.

The Design Process
But then I stumbled upon Ursa Major, the Great Bear. There’s something about that constellation, the way it’s always there in the northern sky, that just resonated with me. Plus, it’s got the Big Dipper in it, which is a classic for a reason. Once I settled on Ursa Major, it was time to think about the design. I didn’t want just a bunch of dots connected by lines. I wanted it to be a bit more artistic, more me.
I started sketching out ideas, playing around with different styles. I even looked at a bunch of constellation tattoos online for inspiration. There are so many cool ways to represent stars and connect them. Eventually, I came up with a design that I loved—a sort of minimalist, geometric take on Ursa Major, with the stars represented by small, solid circles.

Finding the Right Artist
Next up, finding an artist. This was super important. I needed someone who could take my rough sketch and turn it into something beautiful on my skin. I checked out portfolios of local tattoo artists, paying close attention to their linework and their ability to do minimalist designs. I finally found an artist whose style I really vibed with, and I booked a consultation.

Getting Inked
The consultation went great. The artist loved my design and had some helpful suggestions to make it even better. We scheduled the appointment, and before I knew it, I was in the chair, getting inked. The actual tattooing process was a bit nerve-wracking, but the artist was super chill and made me feel comfortable. It took about an hour, and honestly, it didn’t hurt as much as I thought it would.
